Former New York Giants says he prefers Joe Flacco over Eli Manning
Today Chris Canty the Former New York Giant was asked to choose which quarterback he prefers and he quickly chose his new quarterback Joe Flacco over his former two-time Super Bowl-winning teammate.?Joe Flacco,? Canty said when asked Flacco or Manning on NBC Sports? Pro Football Talk. ?Because he won a Super Bowl and he?s one of the best deep-ball throwers in the National Football League. Absolutely. Take a look at the tape.?Of course, Canty predictably picked his new quarterback in this case. He signed with the Ravens in the offseason after being a cap casualty cut by the Giants.?He throws a beautiful deep ball,? Canty said. ?He puts it only where the receivers can get their hands on it when you talk about the vertical passing game. And they?ve got some vertical pass threats. They got Torrey Smith. They?ve got [Dennis] Pitta. They?ve got [Ed] Dickson. They?ve got some good weapons for him to use down the field.?Canty did praise Manning for proving time and time again that h

Brandon Carr says the Cowboys are buying into new defense
credit: brandon carrThe Dallas Cowboys are making a change on defense. Monte Kiffin has been installed as the Cowboys defensive coordinator and the team is transitioning to a 4-3 defense. While talking to Ben & Skin on 105.3 Cowboys cornerback Brandon Carr said that his teammates are responding well the to change.?Guys are definitely buying. We?re just trying to create a different mentality around there. It?s all about just everybody hustling and being committed, all 11 out there on the field meeting at one time. If we?re forcing the issue, we?re talking about turnovers. That was a major problem for us last year. But this year, I feel we?ve got the guys that kind of believe and now that we see it, the proof is in the pudding with this defense that we can go out there and make the same plays.?Carr was supportive of Kiffin?s defense a weeks ago saying it allowed him to be the corner he wanted to be. He did not back down from those comments on the radio show.?I think it?s going...

Three Giants vying for one starting job
The New York Giants starting middle linebacker position looks to be up for grabs this offseason, with head coach Tom Coughlin calling it a "wide open competition." When OTAs began on Wednesday, Mark Herzlich started at the position over former Cowboy Dan Connor, and reclamation project Aaron Curry. ?It?s a big opportunity for me to step up, to play like I know I can play, and really lead the defense,? Herzlich said, via The New York Post. ?I knew my opportunity would come at some point and hopefully this year?s that time.? Herzlich and Connor, as it turns out, were high school rivals back in Pennsylvania, who played for schools only about 15 minutes apart. Herzlich claims that Connor introduced him to varsity football by running him over. ?I went to make a tackle and he put me right on my back,? he joked. The odd man out at the position may be Aaron Curry, the former Seattle Seahawks draft bust who's looking to reclaim a career filled with disappointment sicne be...
All hope is on Steelers\' new blocking scheme to revive running game
The Pittsburgh Steelers might be doing away with some of their old blocking scheme, and from what center Maurkice Pouncey sees so far makes him a believer that it would be best for the team. In the first few weeks of OTAs, offensive line coach Jack Bicknell Jr. has been using an zone, one-cut blocking style, similar ot the Denver Broncos used under Alex Gibss 20 years ago, and the same scheme that was used to make Arian Foster a household name. ?I don't know if Maurkice was joking or not when he said that,? guard Ramon Foster said, via the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. ?I think he was, but, still, that's how much we are liking this. It's a great new dynamic for us.? Their old scheme won't go away, but the new one will supplement the running game to accommodate their all-of-a-sudden big, nimble and young offensive line, writes Mark Kaboly: ' Jonathan Dwyer led the Steelers last year with 623 yards, the lowest total for their leading rusher since Merrill Hoge ...
Wes Welker fitting right in with Broncos
Peyton Manning is getting what he wanted in Denver all along, a faster offense. Now with even more tools to work with, the future Hall of Fame quarterback went without huddles in seven on seven drills including free agent addition Wes Welker. Packers may have some doubts that Nick Perry can fit in their system
Former USC outside linebacker Nick Perry might just be too big too play OLB in the NFL, but last year, the Green Bay Packers felt he was athletic enough to play the position in their 3-4. He missed a good deal time due to injuries in his rookie season, and the Packers at this time, can't really say whether he's made the transition to be effective in the pro level, reports Pete Dougherty of the Press-Gazette. Perry, still projected to play opposite Clay Matthews in a starting role has instructions to lose weight this offseason to better fit the hybrid outside pass rush and coverage skills the Packers look for in outside linebackers, writes Dougherty. ?I?m an outside linebacker,? Perry said this week after an OTA practice. ?I?m playing the position I was made to play.? Per the Gazette: 'Though Perry was a good pass rusher in college at USC (21½ sacks in three seasons), he also was big for an outside linebacker. At the NFL scouting combine he weighed 271 pounds, whi...

A few weeks ago, Pittsburgh Steelers safety Ryan Clark served as an intern at ESPN, as he wants to pursue work in the media when his playing days over. Being as 2013 is the final year of Clark's current contract, it's easy to speculate that those days could be coming soon, but the veteran suggested otherwise in a Friday report by Jim Wexell of Steel City Insider. Wexell reports that while bantering with Clark about his potential upcoming media career during the third and final practice of the Steelers first OTA session of the 2013 season on Thursday, that Clark told him he still loves the game Read more [...]
Report: Titus Young ignores judge
If Titus Young is truly on the road to recovery, he's got an interesting way of showing it. The troubled free agent receiver, who's been arrested four times this month, appeared in a California court Friday and learned he'd be facing a total of 11 criminal charges, including attempted burglary. His reaction? Stoicism. According to USA Today, Young, dressed in an orange jumpsuit and appearing inside a protective cage, completely ignored Judge Andre Manssourian during proceedings. "Good morning, sir." No reply. "Can you hear me?" No reply. "Are you Titus Demetrius Young?" No reply. Young's attorney, Altus W. Hudson II, maintains that his client was simply exercising his right to remain silent. Young's father, Richard, called out to his son, who he claims is suffering from a brain disorder. But he, too, received no reply. His family members refused to comment after the hearing. The silence apparently did little to ...
Pittsburgh Steelers scouts killed the NFL Draft this year
Justin K. AllerPittsburgh Steelers scouts killed the NFL Draft this yearThis year the Pittsburgh Steelers drafted best player available through the entire draft, and from the first to the last pick they hit the hammer on the nail. I am a huge fan of this draft.  The Steelers did a great job in the 2013 Draft, find out why I believe they had the best draft in 2013.With their first pick in round one, the Steelers selected Jarvis Jones, who I had as the number one rated outside linebacker in the draft.  At pick 17 the Steelers had to make this selection, because Jarvis tore up the SEC.  This is the pick that the Dolphins should have made and instead they drafted an unproven athletic player, who in my opinion will never get the game.In the second round with the 48th pick the Steelers drafted Le?Veon Bell who fills the need of a power back.  While the Steelers have Jonathan Dwyer they did lose Rashard Mendenhall.  I can see Bell get a ton of carries for the Steelers and taking over t...

Everett Golson No Longer Enrolled At Notre Dame
The Notre Dame quarterback position took another hit on Saturday as it was learned that last year's signal caller Everett Golson was no longer enrolled at the institution. What started out as rumors on Twitter on Saturday afternoon was confirmed by Notre Dame on Saturday evening to WNDU-TV. Notre Dame spokesman Dennis Brown, citing federal privacy laws and school policy, would offer no further explanation for Golson's departure. Golson, who beat out Tommy Rees for the job in fall camp last year, completed 187 of 318 pass attempts for 2,405 yards. He threw 12 touchdown passes and six interceptions. Golson also accounted for 298 yards and six touchdowns on the ground. With the departure of highly touted recruit Gunner Kiel to Cincinnati, it leaves senior Tommy Rees and junior Andrew Hendrix as the main competitors for the starting quarterback job. Rees has more experience, since he served as the starting quarterback for 12 games in the 2011 season and has sta...

Report: NCAA will talk to Dye again
NCAA investigators are planning to interview Miami football player Dyron Dye next week to see if there are discrepancies between what he told them previously and what he wrote in an affidavit in support of a former Hurricanes assistant coach, a person with knowledge of the situation told The Associated Press. The development comes less than three weeks before the NCAA's Committee on Infractions, a group that is separate from the association's investigators, is scheduled to begin hearing the case against the Hurricanes, most of which revolves around ties that players, coaches, recruits and administrators had with former booster Nevin Shapiro.Dye has already met with Miami officials and has retained an attorney, according to the person who spoke with AP on condition of anonymity because none of the information was to be released publicly. It's unclear what sanctions, if any, Dye may be facing. If the NCAA can prove that he misled them in his two previous interviews with investigators, he could b
Michigan Football: 5 key players as we head into summer
On August 31st, Michigan Football will begin year three of the Brady Hoke era. Thus far, Hoke has steered the Wolverines to a 19-7 record, a 12-4 conference mark and he became the first Michigan coach since Fielding H. Yost, to go undefeated at home in his first two seasons. The blemish on Hoke?s first two seasons is a 4-5 road record. So what should we expect in year three? Hoke has systematically re-calibrated the culture of the Michigan program back to the future. He is a direct descendant of the Bo Schembechler and Lloyd Carr coaching tree and he drawn extensively on that lineage as he returns Michigan to all it?s glory. He has placed a major recruiting emphasis on beefing up the lines and dominating in-state recruiting. So as Team 134 heads into the summer months, here are five key players that could help the Wolverines claim a record 43rd Big Ten Championship.Devin Gardner1. ND paid Weis more than Kelly in 2011
(Photo Courtesy: USA Today Sports) Looking for a definition of #ThatAwkwardMoment on this Friday morning heading into a holiday weekend? We may have found it at that bastion of football- and moral- excellence known as the University of Notre Dame. That?s because while Brian Kelly was leading the Irish to an 8-5 record during the 2011 season (one which would ultimately be a pre-cursor to Notre Dame?s 2012 BCS title game run), the school itself was busy paying Kelly?s predecessor Charlie Weis more than they paid him. Yup, much like in an awkward dating situation, apparently the shadow of the ?last guy? loomed over Kelly two seasons ago while with the Irish. And unfortunately, it?s looking like that shadow will continue to loom straight through the 2015 season. According to the Chicago Tribune, tax returns indicate that for the fiscal year beginning in July 2011 and ending in 2012, Weis made a staggering $2,054,744 you know, to not coach Notre Dame, while Kelly was ?only? co...

Urban Meyer looks to lead the Buckeyes to the BCS
Since the inception of the BCS in 1998, it has been no secret that the SEC has ruled the roost.  They boast the most championships with 9 as well as the most wins with 17.  It seems that, even to the casual fan, that conference stalwarts Alabama and Florida seem to be at least in the mix every single year.  However, even with this dominance, the Ohio State University is tied for the most BCS wins and the most appearances.  Somehow, despite playing in a weaker conference, they have kept pace with the big boys down south.  And with the addition of coach Urban Meyer, look for the Bucks to keep this up.Unfortunately for the scarlet and grey, the team was on probation last year for the lovingly named Tattoo Gate Scandal that forced Terrell Pryor out of school early and a sub par season out of interim head coach and Adam Sandler look alike Luke Fickell in 2011.  The situation in Columbus was such that it coaxed former Florida Gators box out of the broadcast booth and onto the sidelines, d...

Gundy causes stir with transfer blocks
Photo: USA Today Sports Oklahoma State has blocked any transfer for quarterback Wes Lunt to anywhere in the Big 12. And the SEC. And the Pac 12, according to CBS Sports. And Southern Mississippi. And... Central Michigan? For those keeping score at home, Oklahoma State has blocked Lunt from transferring to a total of 38 schools. Something about this just does not seem right. Does it? Sure, there is something to be said about commitment, but when a college student feels he needs a new home it continues to baffle minds as to how a school can have so much power and influence about where that player ends up going. Or rather where they are not going. If Oklahoma State had prevented Lunt from transferring to another Big 12 school it probably would not have raised an eye brow. Keeping Lunt from transferring to any SEC or Pac 12 school is rather extreme. Preventing a transfer to Southern Mississippi is petty. Preventing a transfer to Central Michigan is just flat out insane (Okl...

Beckham career draws to close
David Beckham's illustrious playing career will officially finish at the Stade du Moustoir on Sunday when his Paris St Germain side visit Lorient.Beckham tearfully walked off the Parc des Princes pitch to a tremendous reception from both his team-mates and the crowd after being substituted in the 3-1 win over Brest last week, when the Parisians celebrated their Ligue 1 title triumph. The manner of the former Manchester United, Real Madrid and AC Milan midfielder's exit coupled with the artificial surface the Brittany club uses has given rise to rumours that Beckham has already played his final match.Team-mate Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who needs one more goal to take his league tally for the season to 30, was just one of a host of PSG players to pay tribute to Beckham."I think his retirement is a huge loss for football, but I also understand his decision. He's a really nice guy," the Swede, who won the Ligue 1 player of the year last Sunday, told PSG's official website."I didn

Demba Ba has revealed that Chelsea's players are excited about the possibility of Jose Mourinho rejoining the club.Ba was speaking after Chelsea's post-season friendly defeat to Manchester City in St Louis, in which Chelsea squandered a three-goal lead to lose 4-3.The striker admitted that the fact that Mourinho had already spent time at the club could well give Chelsea an advantage next season."You see what he has won, what he has brought to his teams and to his players individually, and of course he is one of the best," Ba told Sky Sports News."He knows everything about Chelsea having already managed the team for three or four years. He knows everybody here and he knows the club."Everybody is thinking about it and everybody is happy. Thai Premeire League soccer player sent off for celebrating with shorts on his head (Video)
A Thai Premiere League soccer player may need to tone down his goal celebrations after going way over the top during a game last week. After Muangthong United midfielder Mario Gjurovski scored the team's second goal against TOT Sport Club, he stripped off his shorts and put them on his head, then turned his hands into guns and pretended to shoot at the crowd. Gjurovski received a yellow card for the excessive display, which was his second yellow card of the game, so he was sent off. Gjurovski put his shorts back on, but only pulled them up to his knees as he walked off the pitch. It would seem that Gjurovski had plenty of time to think about it, as if he knew that what he was about to do was a bit excessive and might be a bad idea, but he went through with it anyway.  Maybe next time he'll act like he's scored a goal before. Chelsea goalie\'s son scores adorable goal
Despite a long season there have been some great memories for the Chelsea soccer club, including their Europa League triumph. But perhaps the most adorable moment came after Sunday's 2-1 home victory over Everton, when Ross Turnbull's son, Josh, scored on a breakaway in front of the crowd. Paulo Ferreira, leaving the club after nine years, was busy giving his farewell speech in the center circle while players and their children stood on the pitch to watch. All except one. Without a coach in sight, little Josh dribbled the ball from the middle of the pitch towards the goal, with anticipation building among supporters. He stopped near the penalty spot and committed a handball - seemingly unnoticed by officials - and eventually managed to find the net. At first he was taken aback by the roar of the crowd, pausing to take the moment in. Then he raised his hands up in deserved celebration. As the little tyke stood in triumph, Chelsea fans chanted,  "Sign him up, sign him up, sign him up
Looking back at Sir Alex Ferguson\'s incredible career
One of world soccer?s most legendary managerial careers came to a close Sunday when Sir Alex Ferguson toed the touch line for the final time as Manchester United closed its 2012-13 season. Ferguson?s final match was an away draw with West Bromwich Albion 5-5. It came on a Survival Sunday where nearly everything has been decided, including the Red Devils clinching yet another Premiership title weeks ago. With 13 league championships, five FA Cup titles, four League Cup wins, and two Champions League crowns, how does Sir Alex?s career compare to American coaching icons such as Vince Lombardi, Tom Landry, John Wooden, Pat Summitt, or Bob Knight? For one, staying 26 years with one club speaks volumes. Yes, managing a team with one of the world?s largest war chests probably made things easier. But having a talented squad on paper comes with enormous expectations. Chelsea is one of Man U?s fellow heavyweights in the English Premier League, they are currently looking for their ninth manag...
Tragic end to soccer fan\'s World Cup trek
A man who was planning to dribble a soccer ball from Seattle to Brazil for the 2014 World Cup died on Tuesday after being hit by a car just 14 days into his trip. 42-year-old Richard Swanson was walking down highway 101 in south Lincoln City, Ore., when he was hit by a car from behind around 10:00 a.m. Tuesday morning, according to The News Guard. He was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. A father of two sons, Swanson, a Seattle native, lost his job as a graphic designer last year and had trouble finding another job. In a video posted on the site where he was chronicling his trip, Swanson explained that he was bummed out and thinking about what he wanted out of life. He said one thing he wanted to do was see a World Cup. So without having too many responsibilities like a job and kids to raise, he decided to sell his house and make the trip. ?Screw what happens, I don?t even care,? Swanson said of the plan, via Dirty Tackle. ?As crazy as the idea sounds, that...

credit: getty imagesPaul Menard?s future was never in real doubt. On Friday official word came that the 32-year-old and Richard Childress Racing had reached a deal which will keep the driver in the No. 27 Chevrolet.Keeping Menard at RCR was important to the organization as Menard brings sponsorship from his family?s home improvement store. Thus far this year Menard is 10th in the driver standings with four finishes insi...

Kenseth looks to continue winning ways
Matt Kenseth is ready to get back to work.Kenseth and his first-year team at Joe Gibbs Racing have had plenty to celebrate this season with a Sprint Cup-best three victories and seven top-10 finishes in 11 events. But Kenseth wasn't a factor in last week's all-star race at Charlotte Motor Speedway and knows he's got some challenges to overcome before getting back to his winning ways at the Coca-Cola 600 Sunday night.Judging from Kenseth's past performances here, he might only need a couple of fast laps to turn things around. The 2003 champion won the circuit's longest race in 2000, then finished among the top 10 in eight of the next 12.Kenseth says the all-star format is unique and generally doesn't yield much data for the 600.

Charmin had the best ad at the NASCAR All-Star Race
Charmin put together one of the best billboard ads we have seen. The toilet paper company decided to get in on some advertising action with NASCAR and placed this giant billboard outside of the Charlotte Motor Speedway for Saturday?s Sprint All-Star Race. Does it get better than that? According to Auto Week, this billboard is about 30 by 40 feet and faces Highway 29, which is the main highway facing the speedway. Charmin was also planning to hand out samples of its ultra strong product. In addition to advertising at the All-Star Race, Charmin has a two-race deal with NASCAR and will also have ads up at the Coca-Cola 600. Their deal includes the billboards and signs on pit road, like this one: Charmin ad campaign along pit wall. #nascar twitter.com/bobpockrass/st? ? NASCAR?s Mike Harmon takes to twitter to deny stealing Jennifer Jo Cobb?s transporter. This one is gonna get messy.
With women in NASCAR, it seems there is always going to be a drama taking place. When Jennifer Jo Cobb, pointed her finger in the direction of Mike Harmon, over her missing transported, she had no idea what kind of mess she was making. Or did she? Harmon took to twitter to defend himself against the charges Cobb had filed against him. He tweeted this; I want it known that I have never stolen so much as a piece of bubble gum in my life. I did not take JJC hauler, there is no video of me any Harmon wasn?t done tweeting yet, he also had this tweet to send out; where near her shop. Today she was the windshield & I was the bug, but when we get in FEDERAL court in a couple wks there?s a boulder coming Cobb said; ?It is my sole concern to get the transporter back so that we can make Friday night?s NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race at Charlotte Motor Speedway.? If that is the case she should have solicited the help of guys like Harmon to look for the transporter. Pointing the finge...
Why is NASCAR Kissing Danica?s butt? Why the rule change to favor her?
For decades NASCAR drivers let their driving gain their popularity. That isn?t the case for Danica Patrick. NASCAR is changing a rule to favor Patrick in the All-Star Race. Patrick should show she can drive with the best of NASCAR drivers to get her a spot in the All-Star race. NASCAR shouldn?t change rules to make things easier for her. After all, would she want to be remembered as the woman driver who had to have rules changed to make things easier for her? The All-Satr race always had to have its contestants finishing the race on the lead lap to gain entry into the bigger race. That is not the case this year. The lead lap language has been removed. This had to be done to enure Patrick a spot. There is a good chance she won?t finish the race to qualify on the lead lap. NASCAR knows she is a fan favorite and now they are changing the rules to make things easier for her. When did they ever do that for other drivers? You get rewarded on the NASCAR circuit by your driving not the way ...
Body of Nick Bower, missing NASCAR fan found not far from The Talladega Super Speedway.
Officials have recovered the body of 28-year-old NASCAR fan Nick Bower on Tuesday afternoon, in a creek not far from the Talladega Speedway. Bower had been missing for 10 days. The Body was discovered in a creek about a mile and a half from the raceway. His Girlfriend who reported him missing had last seen him when they were going to sleep in his truck the eve before the race.  At this time no foul play is suspected. The remains were turned over to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences for an autopsy. The Anniston Star reported that Talladega County deputy coroner Larry Seals, said Bower?s body was spotted at 11:49 a.m. CT by an Etowah County Sheriff?s Office helicopter in the Choccolocco Creek. This is the second death of a NASCAR fan this season. The first came earlier in the year when a fan shot himself in the head. Bower had gone to Talladega with his girlfriend, to watch the race and because they didn?t get their tent set up before the rains came they were going to sleep ...
Ryan Newman rips NASCAR after going airborne again
Stewart-Haas Racing driver Ryan Newman is pissed off and he wants NASCAR to know it.  For the third time since 2009, his car went airborne, and he wants NASCAR to do something about it. It?s not safe out there, he says.?I?d have to say, if they had a driver who was an engineer that understood the race cars more than anybody else, or more than the average [driver], you?d think they would consider my opinion and my education,? Newman said, via ESPN. ?But I haven?t seen that yet.??I am doing this interview to let everybody know I?m all right,? Newman told reporters after being released at the infield medical center. ?They can build safer race cars, they can build safer walls. But they can?t get their heads out of their a?- far enough to keep them on the race track, and that?s pretty disappointing.?I wanted to make sure I get that point across. Y?all can figure out who ?they? is. That?s no way to end a race. Our car was much better than that. That?s just poor judgmen

Summer is nearly upon us, which means it?s time to turn our attention to the red clay of Paris and the second major of the 2013 tennis season. Roger Federer shows off punny bone after it hails at Roland Garros (pic)
Roger Federer never has struck me as a fellow with a well-honed sense of punnery (made-up word), although that does not mean that it isn?t possible for him to crack a well-timed pun if it is set up on a tee for him. The Fab Five (WTA): Previewing the Roland Garros Women?s Contenders
Sharapova hopes to reignite a love affair from last summer. This look ahead at the Roland Garros women?s field mirrors the format used for the men?s companion article yesterday. The smart money: 1) Serena Williams:  Looking back at last year?s preview of WTA Roland Garros contenders, Serena held exactly this position at the head of the list.  Virginie Razzano saw things differently, of course, scoring a shocking first-round upset that extended Serena?s drought without a final here to ten straight years after winning the 2002 title.  So you might ask why many of us did not learn our lesson in again choosing her as the consensus favorite.  One reason is that Razzanos, like Soderlings, are rare events that do not happen in consecutive years.  Another is that Serena?s clay titles last season, as impressive as they were, came on green and blue clay, whereas she completed the Madrid-Rome double this year on the red dirt featured at Roland Garros.  She also moved as crisply on clay as she ...
Catfight! Vandeweghe Calls Out Putintseva
Source: Julian Finney/Getty Images Europe They may only be ranked 99 and 105 in the world, but Coco Vandeweghe and Yulina Putintseva made headlines after their three set match in Brussels Open qualifying. Vandeweghe claimed on Twitter that her 18 year old opponent insulted her after the match.
Viktor Troicki has a meltdown for the ages
Somewhere John McEnroe has to be smiling. Tennis player Viktor Troicki went on a 4 minute rant after the chair umpire at that Italian Open in Rome overruled the base line judge and called Troicki?s backhand out. Chair umpire Cedric Mourier left his position to examine the ball mark on the clay court and confirmed his call which sent Viktor on a rant for the ages. Troicki yells over and over again, ?you know you?re wrong.?  He even dragged the camera man over to the ball mark to prove his case.  It is hard to tell who is correct, because the clay court has ball marks everywhere. We have featured Troicki on our site before during Wimbledon, when he offered up his racquet to a fan that was giving him advice during his serve.   The post Viktor Troicki Has Epic Meltdown In Rome appeared first on Ride The Pine.
Roger Federer cut his long hair

Maria Sharapova confirms Grigor Dimitrov is her boyfriend in great way
Maria Sharapova was rumored to be dating fellow tennis player Grigor Dimitrov for months, but they never confirmed the relationship. It wasn?t until the two were photographed by the paparazzi after Dimitrov?s upset win over Novak Djokovic at the Madrid Open that she finally confirmed they were dating. And she did so in a great way. After beating Kaia Kanepi 6-2, 6-4 at the Madrid Open, Sharapova went to sign a television camera as is customary for the winner. Instead of signing her name, Sharapova wrote a funny message intended for the paparazzi: ?How did you catch us???? At least there?s no hiding it anymore, and Maria is a good sport about things. Sharapova was previously engaged to basketball player Sasha Vujacic, but the two broke up last year. Dimitrov, a 21-year-old Bulgarian player currently ranked No. 28 in the world, was rumored to have gone out with Serena Williams in the past. Serena Williams responds: I?m a Sloane Stephens fan
Serena Williams responded to the criticism she faced from Sloane Stephens by saying she is a big fan of the up-and-coming player. In an interview with ESPN The Magazine, Stephens said her mentor-protege relationship with Williams had been overblown by the media, and that Williams essentially dropped her as a friend after losing to her at the Australian Open in January. Following her second-round match at the Madrid Open on Tuesday, Williams was asked about Stephens? criticism. ?I?m a big Sloane Stephens fan and always have been,? Williams said at a press conference after beating Lourdes Dominguez 6-2, 7-5, per the AFP. ?I?ve always said that I think she can be the best in the world. I?ll always continue to think that and always be rooting for her. ?I really just always wish her and anyone, really, especially from America the best. We don?t have that many American players, so it?s always exciting to see so many young players doing so well.? Williams certainly was playing nice with ...
Sloane Stephens rips Serena
Sloane Stephens absolutely obliterated Serena Williams in an interview with ESPN The Magazine, saying the two do not enjoy a close relationship and that she has been shunned by Williams ever since beating the veteran at the Australian Open. In the interview, Stephens says her relationship with Williams has completely deteriorated since she defeated the decorated 31-year-old in the quarterfinals at the Aussie Open in January. She also says that Williams was not her favorite player growing up and nothing like a mentor to her, contrary to how the story has been told by the media. The interview appears in the May 13 issue of the magazine. The excerpts below come from Beyond the Baseline. ?She?s not said one word to me, not spoken to me, not said hi, not looked my way, not been in the same room with me since I played her in Australia,? Stephens says. ?And that should tell everyone something, how she went from saying all these nice things about me to unfollowing me on Twitter.? Stephens? ...
Connors implies he got Evert pregnant
Jimmy Connors and Chris Evert were one of the most popular couples in sports in the 1970s. The two tennis stars were at the top of the food chain in their sport, which in many ways made them the ideal power couple. Connors and Evert were engaged to be married in 1974, but they split just weeks before their scheduled wedding date. The reason why may surprise you. In his new memoir, ?The Outsider,? Connors implied that he and Evert called off their wedding because of a complication that arose in their relationship when Evert became pregnant. ?An issue had arisen as a result of youthful passion, and a decision had to be made as a couple,? Connors wrote in the book, via the NY Post. ?Chrissie called to say she was coming out to LA to take care of the ?issue.? I was perfectly happy to let nature take its course and accept responsibility for what was to come.? Connors was 22 at the time and Evert was 19. Having come from a strict Catholic home, Evert reportedly felt that the timing of the...

BOSTON ? The Rangers? season began on Jan. 19 at TD Garden in Boston. On Saturday, in Game 5 of their second-round series with the Bruins, New York?s season came to an end.At times, the Rangers showed a little bit of spark here and there, but by and large, the Bruins were far and away the better team on their way to winning the series 4-1. Following Boston?s 3-1 win in the deciding game (the same score as the game between the two teams on opening night), the Rangers admitted as much.?They deserved to win,? Rangers head coach John Tortorella said. ?They were the better team. They deserved to win.?Rangers goalie Henrik Lundqvist, who pointed to ?lucky bounces? as the reason for the Bruins? success in the series? early games, also gave the B?s their respect. The goalie, who sat for about 10 minutes with his head in his hands in his dressing room stall after the game, eventually stood in front of the media and praised Boston for its play.?After their power-play goal, they just took

Marian Hossa is the answer to 3rd grade math problem (Photo)
A third grade student in the Chicago suburbs used Blackhawks forward Marian Hossa's name as the answer to a math problem on one of her tests. Maggie Ciara, a student at Columbus Manor Elementary School in Oak Lawn, Illinois, wrote down "Hossa" as the answer to "9 x 9" on her math test. Her teacher initially returned the paper with a red circle around Hossa's name asking "What is this?" However, she was clearly satisfied with Maggie's explanation, as she gave her a perfect score on her math test. The precedent has now been set, boys and girls. Marian Hossa is now an acceptable answer for "9 times 9". Remember that for the next quiz. H/T Puck Daddy. Visit us at holdoutsports.com and follow us on Twitter @HoldoutSports.
Anchor makes mistake on Kings highlight
Liz Habib and Fox 11 in Los Angeles are back providing playoff highlights for Los Angeles Kings fans, and once again they are back doing a terrible job.  According to Habib, Willie Mitchell scored with 10 minutes left in the third period of game four against the San Jose Sharks.  Unfortunately for Habib, it was actually Mike Richards that scored.  Mitchell hasn?t played in a game since game 6 of the 2012 Stanley Cup Finals and because his knee is so messed up, he might miss the start of the 2013-2014 season too. If you remember the name Liz Habib, it?s because she was the one behind the ?Anze Kopidor? and ?Brad Doty? highlight segment, that even consisted of the old NHL logo from before the lockout.  Yeah, Fox 11 news is really brutal when it comes to hockey. Third grader says \'9 x 9 = Hossa\'
Maggie Ciara, a third-grader at Columbus Manor Elementary School, would seem to be one of the biggest Blackhawks fans around. Maggie took a multiplication test recently during school and when the teacher received her answers questions were asked. Maggie answered the question of ?9 X 9 = Hossa? and it baffled the teacher. Maggie was paying homage to her favorite Blackhawks player who wears the #81 jersey. According to DNA Info things worked out just fine for Maggie in terms of grades: Her teacher, Christine Mech, circled the answer and wrote ?What is this?? in red pen. When Maggie explained her response, Mech gave her credit, and she received an A+. ?Maggie is a very clever little girl,? said Mech, who?s a Hawks fan and knew what Maggie was up to. ?I love the way Maggie has a sense of humor. She did get her 100 percent on the quiz, and we had a little bit of a laugh afterward.? Clever, cute and just wonderful. Article found on: Next Impulse Sports

Has the new Dallas Stars logo been leaked?
As had long been rumored, the Dallas Stars confirmed on May 21 that they would indeed be unveiling a new logo and jersey for the 2013-14 season, promising a reveal on June 4. But of course, in the age of the internet, nothing is safe. Images of the new logo were leaked through various sources, and confirmed by SportsLogos.net. Check them out for yourselves: New Stars logos leaked. Image via SportsLogos.net The new logo, and yet-to-be revealed jerseys that go along with them, are part of a rebranding effort under new Stars owner Tom Gaglardi, who has already made his mark on the team since buying them back in November 2011. He has fired the coach and general manager he inherited from the previous regime (Glen Gulutzan and Joe Nieuwendyk), and is now changing the literal appearance of the franchise. Give Gaglardi credit for trying to change the culture around a team that hasn?t made the playoffs in five years, and is desperate for a spark.
Videos:Chris Kreider scores in OT, Nathan Horton power play
When the Boston Bruins Nathan Horton rifled his power play goal past the Rangers Henrik Lundqvist, it was over, Chris Kreider saw to that. The Bruins were on their way to a sweep in their NHL Eastern Conference semifinals against the New York Rangers after taking what appeared to be a protectable 2-0 lead. Then came the third period and the Rangers found their heart.  Video: Nathan Horton?s Game 4 power play Video: Chris Krieder scores in OT for the Rangers The post Videos:Chris Kreider scores in OT, Nathan Horton power play appeared first on Players View.
Linesman drops f-bomb on Rangers? John Tortorella
TV microphones picked up a heated little convo between a linesman and New York Rangers coach John Tortorella while broadcasters were talking during game 4 of their playoff series with the Bruins. ?That?s enough? F?k You!? you had your say?? can be heard, among other things.Announcer Dave Strader quickly apologized to viewers for the language almost immediately.
Torts fires back at media over Richards
John Tortorella has a way with words but it's too bad most of them can't be posted on family media sites.  The New York Rangers head coach once again needed his potty-mouth washed out with soap during Thursday night's postgame presser after the New York Rangers staved off elimination against the Boston Bruins with a 4-3 overtime win. Tortorella made expensive forward Brad Richards a healthy scratch in an eventual Game 4 win, but ? in his own profane way ? Torts insisted that he and Richards are still close and if you don't believe him well ... ?I love that guy,? Tortorella said. ?I?ve grown up with that guy. Kiss my [expletive deleted] if you?ve written anything differently.? It?s not the first time the Blueshirts' blue-mouthed coach's comments have needed a five-second delay and, with the second-round series extended for at least one more game, it might not be the last. Tortorella didn?t elaborate on the chances that Richards would be back for
Zetterberg getting best of Toews
DETROIT -- He's won a Stanley Cup, the Conn Smythe Trophy as the playoffs MVP and even an Olympic Gold medal. But Chicago Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews has just one assist in four games of the Western Conference semifinals. And after Thursday's 2-0 loss to the Detroit Red Wings in Game 4 , his team is one game away from elimination and his frustration is boiling over. That's because Red Wings captain Henrik Zetterberg -- who's also won a Stanley Cup, a Conn Smythe and an Olympic gold medal -- has taken residence in Toews' head.Zetterberg is preventing Toews from doing all of the things he's accustomed to doing on the ice."Hes really good at that," Wings defenseman Jonathan Ericsson said of Zetterberg. "We saw that early and in previous years, too, when he played against (Pittsburgh captain Sidney) Crosby. "So we know that hes a pain in the ass for the other team and thats the way we like him."Ah, yes, Crosby, who had 15 goals and 31 assists in the
Chara?s slapshot breaks Lundqvist?s mask
Boston Bruins defenseman Zdeno Chara is known for having the hardest slapshot in the entire NHL, but that didn?t stop New York Rangers goalie Henrik Lundqvist from stopping the shot with his head.  Lundqvist knows the Rangers are in a must-win game four and has shown that he is willing to do whatever it takes, even if it means finishing the game with a different mask than the one he started with.  Lundqvist took the shot right in the middle of his face and one of the two bars in the middle of his mask came loose.  Rangers fans should be happy that he doesn?t duck like Ilya Bryzgalov. John Gast pulled after facing 6 hitters with shoulder injury (and other bad news). Is it Michael Wacha time now?
When it rains, it pours.According to Jennifer Langosch, the Cardinals pitching staff took another hit tonight when John Gast had to leave the game, after facing just 6 hitters, due to shoulder tightness. As if that wasn't enough, Jennifer Langosch also reported that Jake Westbrook will likely get a second opinion on his ailing shoulder next week, most likely with Dr. James Andrews.  That's never a good sign. Finally, to top it off, Jennifer reported that the Cardinals are "backing off" Chris Carpenter's throwing program as he didn't feel as good after his last bullpen session. With Gast likely heading to the DL, Westbrook likely needing longer to rehab his elbow and Carpenter likely needing more time for his comeback, it appears that the Cardinals may have no other choice than to turn to Michael Wacha. If Gast's injury is short term in nature, the Cards may be able to make due with someone like Joe Kelly or Seth Maness filling in for a start or ...
Pagan hits walkoff inside the park home run
On Saturday, Angel Pagan of the Giants hit perhaps the greatest walkoff of the season. With San Francisco trailing 5-4 in the bottom of the tenth following a Troy Tulowitzki homer in the top of the inning, Brandon Crawford led off with a walk against Rockies closer Rafael Betancourt. Quillermo Quiroz bunted Crawford over to second to bring up Pagan, who hit a deep fly ball off the base of the wall in right center field. The ball bounced over the head of Colorado right fielder Michael Cuddyer, and Pagan just kept on running. Dexter Fowler fielded the ball and threw home, but Pagan slid in safely just underneath the tag of Wilin Rosario, giving the Giants a 6-5 win in the most exciting of ways. You can't get your heart racing any faster than this watching the end of a ballgame, that's for sure. [follow]
Jake Westbrook will seek second opinion on elbow
credit: getty imagesThe St. Louis Cardinals had hoped that Jake Westbrook would only need a stay on the 15-day disabled list but trouble with the right handers elbow has his return in doubt.Westbrook played catch on Friday and said he felt fine but Jennifer Langosch of MLB.com reports that he will get a second opinion on his elbow, likely from Dr. James Andrews. On the season Westbrook had made six starts and compiled a 1.62 ERA and a 1.46 WHIP.Things are not working out well for Chris Carpenter either. Carpenter had been pushing to get back into the Cardinals rotation but he will take a break after he did not feel good following a bullpen session. He will continue to throw in the meantime.
John Clayton trains for, throws out first pitch
John Clayton is as popular as ever. The ESPN NFL analyst, commonly known as the ?the Professor,? threw out the first pitch last night at the Safeco Field prior to the start of the Seattle Mariners game. Clayton even had himself a training regimen leading up to the game. Gotta hand it to Clayton, as the guy isn?t afraid make fun of himself, as we saw last year in the greatest ?This is SportsCenter? commercial since Charley Steiner led us to freedom. And here is that first pitch which also disproves the ponytail theory. Just little short and to the right, but the guy is 59 and isn?t exactly the most athletic. Not much worse than our President who fashions himself as one. H/T SportsGrid
Matt Harvey dating Swimsuit model Anne V
It has been quite a rookie season for New York Mets pitcher Matt Harvey. Harvey has been stellar on the mound posting a 5-0 record with a 1.93 ERA and a 0.83 WHIP. Umpire Angel Hernandez blows another call, Hawk Harrelson rightfully goes nuts (Video)
Another day, another blown call by MLB umpire Angel Hernandez at a critical juncture in a game. Friday night at U.S. Cellular Field, the Chicago White Sox were tied 3-3 with the visiting Miami Marlins and had loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the 10th inning. White Sox batter Alex Rios hit a ground ball to shortstop and the Marlins turned the 6-4-3 double play. Unfortunately, it was obvious to everyone watching, especially White Sox announcer Hawk Harrelson, that Rios beat the throw to first base. Not only should Rios should have been called safe, but the White Sox would have won the game with the runner from third coming home on the play. Harrelson, who is known for being a bit of a White Sox homer with his announcing style, was justifiably outraged after the blown call from Hernandez, who cost the Athletics a game earlier this month after blowing a home run call. Fortunately, however, the White Sox were able to overcome the bad call and win the game in the bottom of the 11th inning,
MLB Umpires Blow Double Play Call in Rangers-Mariners Game As Pitcher Bizarrely Intercepts First Baseman (Video)
At this point it may be more surprising when a week goes by without a terrible call by an MLB umpire. The latest gaffe might be the worst of all. The Rangers were attempting to pull off a 3-6-3 double play in the second inning when pitcher Justin Grimm stepped in front of first baseman Mitch Moreland to bizarrely intercept the ball. First base umpire Jeff Nelson thought Moreland caught the ball and ruled batter Jesus Sucre out.Seattle manager Eric Wedge immediately came out to argue the ruling, but even he didn?t know what had happened on the field. Wedge told MLB.com after the game that he was arguing that Moreland pulled his foot off the bag.?Everybody?s just focused on the bag,? Wedge said. ?I thought he came off the bag. That?s what I was out there arguing. And then I come to find out later, with the replay, that he didn?t even catch the ball. ? It would have been a much bigger argument if I had known that at the time, no doubt about it.?No one comes out of this situation loo...
Terry Francona playfully attacks Red Sox announcer Don Orsillo (Video)
Cleveland Indians manager (and former Boston Red Sox manager) Terry Francona playfully attacked NESN play-by-play announcer Don Orsillo before Friday night's game at Fenway Park. Francona first chased Orsillo out of the Indians dugout. Then, as Orsillo came back, Francona grabbed his tie and got him in a headlock. Fortunately for us, Orsillo's NESN colleague Jenny Dell captured it all on video. When it was all over, Orsillo finally left the dugout to fix his tie, which was a complete mess, while Francona shouted "Come back here, you big baby." Looks like if this Indians gig doesn't work out, Francona might have a future in the WWE. Video via @JennyDellNESN. H/T BLS. Visit us at holdoutsports.com and follow us on Twitter @HoldoutSports.
Umpire badly blows double play call
First base umpire Jeff Nelson blew a call in unbelievable fashion on Friday night in Seattle. In the bottom of the second inning, Mariners catcher Jesus Sucre hit a grounder to first baseman Mitch Moreland. Moreland threw to Elvis Andrus at second for one, and Andrus fumbled with the ball before throwing it back to first for the apparent double play. Only that's not what really happened at all. Moreland's foot wasn't on the bag when he supposedly caught the ball from Andrus, so Sucre should have been safe to begin with. Also, there's the tiny little detail of Moreland not even actually catching the ball! That's right, pitcher Justin Grimm actually ended up making the catch on Andrus' throw, and he was nowhere near the bag. That didn't stop Nelson from calling Sucre out on what went down in the scorebooks as a 3-6-1 double play. The worst part for the Mariners is that Brendan Ryan followed Sucre's at bat wtih an RBI double, which could have been a ...
Ok, Ike will (likely) be gone. So, what?s next?
It was a demoralizing scene if I ever saw one.In the bottom of the 8th inning in Friday night?s game vs. the Braves, Ike Davis struck out for the fourth time in the game while looking hopeless at the plate. Once again, Davis earned the dreaded ?golden sombrero.? This was the third time this year Davis has earned that distinction. Last year, Davis accomplished that feat only once.As he was heading back to the dugout, Davis looked like a love-crossed mope in a romance drama while staggering back to the bench in the cold as the heavy rain fell on his head. It truly painted a picture of a man so down on his luck. With Davis now one for his last 40, the Mets only recourse these days is to finally demote him to Las Vegas. Unless Davis can, say,  go 8-8 in his next two games, there is just no possible way Davis can stay up any longer and save face. The Mets, though,  will likely wait until the end of the weekend before they finally pull the plug on Davis.Once they do, hopefully Davis ca...
Mets phenom is dating supermodel
There has been one stud athlete in New York City for the past 17 years, but Matt Harvey of the New York Mets is doing his best early on in his first full season to take that injured shorstop?s place. The 24-year-old pitcher for the Mets is 5-0 with a 1.93 ERA, an oustanding 0.829 WHIP and SO/BB rate of 4.35. While he is quickly becoming a fan favorite, like that other guy, he is already doing well for himself with the ladies. Harvey is dating suerpmodel Anne V. While US Weekly is reporting that the two are an item, it was quite obvious when they were spotted at the Rangers/Bruins game together looking awfully comfortable with one another. It was actually an earlier game where the two met. Harvey tweeted out back on May 6 that he shared an elevator with her following the team?s victory over the Caps. Well, Harvey struck while the iron was hot and asked her out. Last season, the Amercian League?s Justin Verlander grabbed attention by dominating opposing batter?s while dating Kate Upto...
Phil Hughes mocks Derek Jeter by ordering Starbucks as ?Sanderson? (Picture)
Derek Jeter set the internet on fire earlier this week when photos of him holding a Starbucks coffee with the name ?Philip? written across the side surfaced. Going incognito may have worked for Jeter while he ordered his coffee, but it didn?t stop the paparazzi from blowing up his spot. On Friday, one of his teammates ? who happens to actually be named Philip ? returned the favor. Yankees pitcher Phil Hughes decided to hit up Starbucks himself on Friday and have some fun with Jeter. As you may know, Jeter?s middle name is Sanderson. Check out the name Hughes used when ordering his beverage: Payback! sports.yahoo.com/blogs/mlb-big-? twitter.com/PhilHughes65/s? ? Phil Hughes (@PhilHughes65) May 24, 2013 Bravo. Hopefully Hughes actually ordered the coffee using the name Sanderson and didn?t simply write it on the cup himself. Detroit Tigers: resizing the AL Central
45 games into the season the Detroit Tigers are in the middle of a tighter than expected AL Central race. Detroit enters play on Friday trailing the upstart Cleveland Indians by a half game. Kansas City is five games behind the Tribe with the White Sox only a ½ game behind them. The Minnesota Twins, as expected, are bringing up the rear at 18-26 and eight games back.If only Justin Masterson could pitch every daySo is this 2011 all over again? Will Cleveland?s hot start sputter and stall once more as the Tigers overwhelm the rest of the pack with their superior roster and lofty payroll?Let?s go team-by-team to see how this thing is going to shake down come late September. We?ll do this in alphabetical order:Chicago White SoxThey seem to be missing just enough in every key area to not be a true contender this year. Their offense lacks excitement and elite firepower. Paul Konerko can only do so much. He will need big time seasons from all four of Alex Rios, Alexei Ramirez, Adam Du...

Royals fan runs onto field, brilliantly avoids cop while stealing rosin bag (Video)
A Kansas City Royals fan ran onto the field at Kauffman Stadium during Thursday night's game and made a brilliant move to avoid a cop while stealing the rosin bag at the pitcher's mound before finally being tackled and handcuffed. It happened in the bottom of the eighth inning as Angels pitcher Michael Kohn was preparing to deliver an 0-2 pitch to Royals batter Alcides Escobar. The fan ran out towards the pitcher's mound and was chased by a lone cop. To avoid the cop, the fan made a sudden change in direction by sliding on the grass around the edge of the mound. The cop ran across the mound and when he tried to adjust his direction, he tripped and did a near faceplant on the mound. The fan then picked up the rosin bag and ran away, but eventually more security guards were able to catch up to him. Royals fans loved it, and Kohn especially got a good chuckle out of it. Tim Duncan\'s Divorce Possibly Involves Sordid Affair
The news of San Antonio Spurs superstar Tim Duncan's divorce surprised many when it broke recently. As a few details start to emerge there are bound to be even more surprises--like the fact that Tim Duncan felt the need to hire a private investigator! According to a report in the San Antonio Express Tim has had doubts for some time. About a year ago he hired a private investigator to tail her and see what she was up to. Typically its the other way around with wives hiring PI's to tail there professional athlete husbands who can't do without a little love and affection on the road! Tim Duncan is known for being a pretty stand up guy so it would have been pretty shocking had it been him that was fooling around. Perhaps the most shocking thing about the whole mess is that she moved out of the family home weeks ago. And this is the first we're hearing about this? Come on tabloids! Where are you guys at? Yeah, Tim Duncan may not be as flashy as LeBron James or garner the attention
Report: Tim Duncan Delaying Divorce Proceedings Due to NBA Playoff Run With Spurs
It?s never a great time to get divorced, but there probably isn?t a worse time for an NBA player than in the middle of a playoff run. That?s why Tim Duncan is trying to delay his divorce proceedings while he attempts to capture his fifth ring with the San Antonio Spurs, according to TMZ. Duncan?s wife filed for divorce back in March. The way that excuse is worded in Bexar County, Texas legal documents is that Duncan?s employment ?is currently making extraordinary demands on him and hopefully will continue to make those demands for the next 30 or so days.? Surprisingly, it doesn?t say ?Go Spurs? at the end of that sentence.Duncan and his wife signed a prenuptial agreement before they got married in 2001. Legal documents state that Duncan wants that prenup enforced. The Spurs are currently two games up on the Memphis Grizzlies in the conference finals. The Spurs and Grizzlies will face off in Game 3 on Saturday night.
Jared Sullinger continues to prove why he belongs with the Boston Celtics
In my opinion, Jared Sullinger was one of the few bright spots to what was an up and down season for the Boston Celtics. As the season entered the mid-winter months, and the trade deadline approached, block buster trades were ablaze and Boston was not excluded. Rumors that sent Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce to the LA Clippers, Rajon Rondo was being shipped all around the league in potential trades. This is the NBA, especially at trade deadline time. Jared Sullinger's name was rarely mentioned. As the Celtics Post Game Show blazed along, Sullinger was a name I mentioned as an absolute must-stay with the C's. In Sully's contributions, prior to his season-ending back surgery, I saw a young man with a great desire to learn from the recourses surrounding him in the Celtics locker room.  I was totally impressed by the under-sized power forward's uncanny ability for positioning around the glass. Sullinger has great hands and feet to compensate for his not-so-great jumping a...

Parker shut out at Memphis restaurant
The San Antonio Spurs are in Memphis with a 2-0 series lead and all the momentum in their series with the Memphis Grizzlies. Spurs star point guard Tony Parker wanted a bite to eat, and headed to the Restaurant Iris, which is run by acclaimed chef Kelly English. Parker is an all NBA point, a food connoisseur and now he can relate to the many people who haven?t been able to get into a restaurant after being turned away from Iris according to the Big Lead.   Head chef Kelly English then tried to justify why Parker was turned away from a restaurant in the rival city, and then tried to explain to the world that it wasn?t done on purpose.   Iris coincidently doesn?t have any tables available for Parker until after the series returns back to San Antonio.   The restaurant seeing that a storm was brewing, released a statement on the treatment given to Parker. At Restaurant Iris we pride ourselves on the service we provide to our guests. From the moment you make a reservation, to when you walk out of our d
Dwyane Wade delivers flying elbow to Lance Stephenson\'s head (Video)
Miami Heat superstar Dwyane Wade delivered flying elbow to the head of Indiana Pacers guard Lance Stephenson, and was not called for a foul, during the fourth quarter of Friday night's Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Finals. Was it an accident, or was it a cheap shot? You be the judge: TNT announcers Marv Albert and Reggie Miller didn't think it was intentional, but we would have to disagree. It looked like there was plenty of room for Wade to maneuver around Stephenson without jumping up and throwing an elbow to Stephenson's head as he ran by. Plus, Wade has been known for throwing around some cheap shots before. We'll see what the NBA thinks. H/T NIS. Tony Allen fined for ridiculous flop
Tony Allen?s ridiculous flop from the Game 2 of the NBA?s Western Conference finals against the San Antonio Spurs almost caused a riot on Twitter. Well, now the 31-year-old Memphis Grizzlies guard has been fined $5,000 under the NBA?s new anti-flopping rules. The 31-year-old Memphis Grizzlies guard rolled around on the floor like he?d been shot in the head after Spurs guard Manu Ginobili fouled him hard with 26.1 seconds remaining in regulation on Tuesday night. The problem was that replays showed Allen?s head never actually hit the floor. In fact, it didn?t hit anything. In a postseason that has been marred by a ton of flopping allegations, Allen?s performance was easily the most egregious. Officials called a flagrant foul on Ginobili for grabbing Allen?s arm as he drove to the basket, and that was the correct call. But Allen definitely oversold the contact. When Allen hit the floor he writhed around like he was on fire and covered his head as if it had been badly injured. Allen t...

Tim Duncan and wife Amy divorcing
Maintaining a last relationship with a pro athlete isn?t easy. Even for the players that live life on the more reserved side. Looks as if another sports marriage is on the rocks. Spurs star Tim Duncan and his wife Amy appear to be divorcing. The couple is attempting to keep things under wraps but in our current media climate, that?s almost as hard as winning Powerball. Details provided by the San Antonio Express-News: The style of the case is A.S.D. vs. T.T.D. Tim Duncan?s middle name is Theodore. The petition says the couple married on or about July 21, 2001, which coincides with the date of the Duncans? nuptials. Two children were born to the parties in the petition: A daughter with the initials S.I.D., born June 27, 2005, and a son, W.D.D., born Aug. 3, 2007. Report: Spurs\' Tim Duncan has filed for divorce
Tim Duncan has been dominant in the 2013 postseason thus far and is one of the main reasons the San Antonio Spurs are poised to challenge for another NBA championship. He is averaging 16.2 points and 9.1 rebounds in 12 playoff games against the Lakers, Warriors and Grizzlies. And it appears this may all be happening while dealing with some off-court distractions. Is there a \'typo\' in Kevin Durant\'s new tattoo?
Kevin Durant tweeted on Tuesday that he was finishing his massive back tattoo, which you can see the ?before? picture of here. As the new photo above shows, it appears the artwork is finished. That may be a problem. The latest addition to Durant?s masterpiece includes a bible verse, which Ball Don?t Lie identified as James 1:2-4: ?Consider it a sheer gift, friends, when tests and challenges come at you from all sides,? the passage reads. ?You know that under pressure, your faith-life is forced into the open and shows its true colors. So don?t try to get out of anything prematurely. Let it do its work so you become mature and well-developed, not deficient in any way.? Perhaps we are misreading the fancy font, but it certainly looks like the word ?mature? is spelled ?mautre? in the last line the photo Durant posted shows. Durant seems to take his tattoos quite seriously, so he can?t be happy if that is indeed a spelling error. We have seen tattoo type-O?s in the past, but they are

Happy Memorial Day weekend! Yesterday snapped my two-game winning streak as I opted for the wrong high-priced starting pitcher ? Anibal Sanchez?s 25 points crushed Jordan Zimmermann?s 10 despite Zimmermann picking up his eighth win of the year. Today will be a semi-condensed version of my daily picks due to some time constraints, but I did want to get them out regardless.Instead of explaining my picks today, I wanted to talk a little about daily game strategy. The way I see it there are about five basic approaches to selecting your daily lineup. I don?t use the same one every day, and generally it?s the pitching options that dictate which route I go, and I?m curious as to what you guys think of the various strategies. The five that I?ve identified are enumerated below. Let me know if you follow any of these more than the others, and if you think I left one out please let me know. For the most part, I adhere to option three.Spend big on pitching, grab an elite bat or two, fill the hol...
2013 Fantasy Baseball: The Week 9 Closer Report
Before we get to the closer report, I want to throw a little plug in for the my FantasyFix podcast debut. You can catch me and Brett Talley talking baseball here. Enough shameless self-promotion. Did you pick up a save in the Marlins bullpen this week? It sounds like just about anyone who can throw a ball from a mound has a shot there. And just as I thought I was going to write 1000 words on the Marlins bullpen, Friday night implosions and injuries saved me (and you). And I?m a sucker for plaintains so you get week of Rodney and his plantain.Miami Marlins? We?re going to use everybody.? ? Mike Redmond when asked who his closer is. Everybody? Me? You? Everybody? The Marlins don?t get a ton of save chances and likely won?t for the remainder of the season. However, a closer is a closer is a closer. When you are chasing saves (as I am in a couple of my leagues) any little indication of a new closer option gets your antennae up. The saves leader coming into this week was Steve Cishek, b...
Buffalo Bills TE Scott Chandler Eyes Early Comeback From ACL Injury
Buffalo Bills starting tight end Scott Chandler had his 2012 season cut short by an ACL tear.Despite his early jokes about returning better than Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson, Chandler has a chance to return to the field faster than expected, and has performed at a higher than expected level as well.Chandler, who had his surgery a mere four and a half months ago, has been running and cutting on his surgically repaired knee, eyeing a return to the playing field in time for the regular season.?The knee feels really good,? Chandler said. ?I feel great. Running routes you could probably tell it?s not 100 percent, but it?s better than most so I feel good.?Chandler?s knee was repaired by Dr. Leslie Bisson and Chandler was working with trainers in Iowa, where he resides during the offseason. So far, Chandler has been running routes for roughly three weeks and will continue to work on his knee until he?s 100 percent.?It feels normal,? said Chandler. ?I can?t say enough a
New York Giants? Terrell Thomas Taking A Cautious Approach to His Comeback
When the New York Giants took the field for their first series of Organized Team Activities (OTAs), cornerback Terrell Thomas was noticeably absent. But it wasn?t because he?s had a set-back or is behind schedule ? it?s because after two consecutive ACL tears, he and the team physicians are taking a cautious approach to his return.?There?s no hurry. There?s no rush,? said Thomas. ?There wasn?t one last year. I was just ahead of schedule last year. This year, we?re kind of just taking it a little bit slower as far as rehab, building the foundation. I?m doing everything already. It?s just doing it a little bit more slower and not in a rush to get out there for OTAs or mini-camp.?Thomas also recently addressed the idea of moving to safety, saying he?d do whatever the team asked. And although it doesn?t look like that switch is in the team?s immediate plans, the idea was floated by General Manager Jerry Reese earlier in the offseason.?I just want to be on the field again, ma
Kansas City Chiefs Select RB Knile Davis In The 2013 NFL Draft
3.34 Kansas City Chiefs Knile Davis, RB, Arkansas (5-11, 227)With the 34th pick in the third round of the NFL Draft, the Chiefs selected RB Knile Davis from Arkansas. There is no denying the skill set that Knile Davis has. He?s got arguably some of the best athleticism of anyone in the draft but there is a reason he slid to the end of the third round. For one, his durability is a concern. He had many injuries in his college career and scouts say he didn?t quite have the same lateral quickness after an ankle injury during the 2011 season. He also had a tough time holding onto the ball last season putting it on the floor 8 times in only 120 touches. The fumbleitis can be fixed by coaching but the injuries are hopefully something he can get past.Still, the kid runs a 4.37 forty and would be an excellent compliment behind starter Jamaal Charles. The Chiefs still have Shaun Draughn for depth but that?s it. If Davis can show well during pass-blocking drills and in the preseason, there i...
Foul Paul! Time For Some Reader Questions
@DSveum asks: Hey Paul, big fan. Name a pitcher who could be valuable for the rest of the season who wasn?t drafted in many leagues.Excellent question. Matt Garza is fresh off the DL and is a top 40 pitcher when he is healthy. He could gain even more value if (when) he is traded to a contender. Believe it or not, for his career Matt Garza has NEVER had an ERA above 3.95 in a full season. He?ll keep his ratios in check and can still strike out 8 batters per 9. Not to mention he?s pitching for a contract this year, Garza looks like a sneaky pickup. Also, keep an eye on Michael Pineda. If his velocity is back and he laid off the Cheetos during his rehab, he could be useful in the second half.@KateUpton asks: ?Paul, you aren?t returning any of my calls! I?ve been begging you for months, please go out with me.?I?ll let you know Kate. Please stop calling.@Adityasharkbyte asks: Who?s the better player, Harper, Trout or Machado? This is a tricky one. There is only one real way to truly find ...
Dumpster Diving: Go Get Anthony Rendon
Welcome to Dumpster Diving, where we search for deep league pick-ups among the picked over. In this space we?ll highlight some of the good and bad lurking on the waiver wire in those deep mixed leagues (14+ teams) and NL/AL-only leagues. Today, let?s take it around the horn for some recommended additions across the diamond.Note: Ownership percentages are Yahoo, ESPNCatcherRussell Martin, PIT ? (40%, 24%)After a two-year stint with the Yankees, the 30-year-old backstop is back in the NL and thriving again. His numbers aren?t outstanding, but he has 6 HR and a .262 BA, which is good enough to make him a legitimate starter in all deep leagues. He?s currently on pace for his second straight 20-HR season and his .255 BABIP should be rising.Corner InfieldBrandon Belt, SF ? (38%, 23.9%)Belt started the season colder than a San Francisco summer, but lately has reminded us why he was a Baseball America Top 25 prospect in 2011. After finishing April with 2 HR and a .235 BA, Belt has hit 4 HR ...
Seattle Mariners Option Catcher Jesus Montero To Tacoma
The Seattle Mariners have optioned catcher Jesus Montero to their Triple-A Tacoma minor league affiliate. Montero, who was expected to play a solid role with the club this season, has struggled to a .208 batting average over 29 games. What is even worse, the Mariners look to have soured on his defense as they are reporting that he will be playing first base in the minors, which isn?t a good sign for a weak hitting catcher. Taking his spot on the active roster at the moment is Jesus Sucre. Philadelphia Phillies 2B Chase Utley Hits Disabled List, Other Notes
The Philadelphia Phillies have had to place second baseman Chase Utley once again on the 15-day disabled list, this time for a strained right oblique which is retroactive to May 21st. Luckily for him and the team the strain is considered pretty mild and shouldn?t take too long to heal. Of course with the wear and tear on his body after several seasons in the major leagues, nothing should be taken for granted with his healing progress.Taking Utley?s spot on the active roster is utility man Michael Martinez who was recalled from their Triple-A Lehigh Valley minor league affiliate. He has struggled all season in the minors and will provide the parent club some depth and not much more in Utley?s absence. In another move, the Phillies have also recalled right-handed reliever Michael Stutes from Lehigh Valley. Tossing a respectable 3.33 earned run average along with a solid 1.19 WHIP, he comes equipped with a better than 2:1 strike outs per walk ratio. Expect him to toss middle-relief ou...
Minnesota Twins Recall P.J. Walters From Rochester
The Minnesota Twins have recalled right-handed starter P.J. Walters from their Triple-A Rochester minor league affiliate. Walters has performed well in the minors this season and hopes to bring the success with him to the majors. Expect the kid to join the starting rotation at some point this weekend. Tampa Bay Buccaneers Select Mike Glennon, QB, NC State
3.11 Tampa Bay Buccaneers Mike Glennon QB, NC StateWith the 11th pick of the third round the Buccaneers took Mike Glennon, quarterback out of NC State. Glennon is a strong armed QB whose strength will be getting the ball down field.  This pick created buzz as soon as it was announced and has only gained steam with Bucs second year coach Greg Schiano stating that Glennon will get the most reps throughout preseason and he?s not against starting him over Josh Freeman. I personally see Glennon sitting and learning the offense this year and if he shows promise things could get interesting when Freeman becomes a free agent next offseason. Philadelphia Eagles Select Bennie Logan, DL, LSU
3.05 Philadelphia Eagles Bennie Logan, DL, LSUWith the 5th pick of the 3rd round the Eagles took Bennie Logan, defensive lineman out of LSU.  Standing at 6-2 and weighing in at 302lbs Logan gives the Eagles a versatile defensive lineman who will be able to line up in multiple alignments in their new 3 man front. I don?t think he starts in year one but he will provide the Eagles with depth and be a nice rotational player. Oakland Raiders? Fans Had Role in Landing Charles Woodson
No matter where the team is in the standings or going in the future, Raidernation stands up. The Oakland Raiders are coming off a tough 4-12 year and a significant playoff drought since 2002. However, that has not deterred the silver and black fans from coming out to show Charles Woodson how much they would love to have him back in Oakland.?I?ll tell you man, it was overwhelming,? Woodson said in a conference call with the media. ?I think that if at any time I?d ever forgotten what the love was like in Oakland, I was definitely reminded yesterday.?Upwards of 100 Raider faithful met Woodson when he landed to meet with the team. He was drafted by the Raiders in the 1998 NFL Draft and played his first eight NFL season in Oakland. He made four Pro Bowls as well as being a key cog in three straight playoff appearances from 2000-2002, which included a Super Bowl trip. With that kind of success, Woodson is a fan favorite and that support helped him choose the Raiders.I think it played a...
Ramses Barden Reluctantly Re-Signs With The Giants
The New York Giants have re-signed wide receiver Ramses Barden. Barden attempted to hit it big in free agency but he doesn?t really have the track record to command big-time interest. He has raised his major statistics in each of the last four seasons, all with the G-Men, but that isn?t saying much. He finished 2012 with 14 receptions for 220 yards and one quality game in which he crossed the century mark. But he still doesn?t have an NFL touchdown and still hasn?t played a full season without missing games. His best bet was to comeback to a team and quarterback that know him and try to make 2013 a standout year. What Barden does have is great size at 6-6, 224 lbs. If he can put it together this season and play with some consistency, there is a chance he can be a regular contributor for the Giants and actually strike it rich next offseason. But don?t look for him to be a sleeper in fantasy drafts. He?ll be parked behind Victor Cruz, Hakeem Nicks and Rueben Randle.  The post Ramse...
Saints Waive 2011 Seventh Round Pick DE Greg Romeus
The New Orleans Saints have waived 2011 7th round draft pick DE Greg Romeus. Romeus tore his right ACL during his final year at Pittsburgh and then tore his left ACL/MCL during 2012 OTA?s. He?s never made it to an NFL game but could mount a comeback if he has it in him. It?s not easy to bounce back from these types of injuries in back-to-back years but not impossible. The Saints were also not willing to wait on Romeus to recover because he doesn?t fit well with their new 3-4 scheme. If he makes it back next season, it?s likely to be with a team employing a 4-3.  The post Saints Waive 2011 Seventh Round Pick DE Greg Romeus appeared first on FFLockerRoom | Fantasy Sports Advice | Sports News | Sports Talk |.
Cincinnati Reds Sign RHP Trevor Bell To Minor League Deal
Free agent right-handed pitcher Trevor Bell and the Cincinnati Reds have come to terms on a minor league contract that will see him pitch for their Triple-A Louisville farm club. He was roughed up brutally in 2012 so there is no guarantee of anything other than providing organizational depth at the minor league level with this signing. Blake Gideon Of The Denver Broncos Retires, Mario Fannin Waived
The Denver Broncos have gotten word that safety Blake Gideon is retiring from the National Football League. Gideon, who was an undrafted free agent just a year ago has given up on the thought of making it as a player in the game and will now focus on the next part of his life. FFLockerRoom wishes Gideon well in any venture that he takes on.In another move, Denver has also waived running back Mario Fannin who has been injured the past two years, having torn  both, his ACL and Achilles. Green Bay Packers Trying Mike Neal at Outside Linebacker
If there is one thing Mike Neal has proven he can do for the Green Bay Packers defense, it?s rush the passer. Now, the Packers may be trying to maximize that ability because on the first day of organized team activities, the fourth-year defender from Purdue was moved from his customary defensive end position to outside linebacker.Remembering that it is only OTA?s ? the move may not mean a whole lot. It could just be the coaching staff doing their due diligence and getting a player some practice reps at a position where he may to have play in a tight spot. Yet, if there ever was a time to experiment with position moves, it?s right now.Neal came to the Packers with high expectations after he was selected by the team in the second round of the 2010 Draft ? but injuries sidetracked the first two years of his career, then a four-game suspension to start last season set him back even further.Just when things started looking bleak, Neal took advantage of the opportunity given to him by ...
